I put a listing on Ebay for Devil’s Claw Seed Pods and posted the ad on my Face Book. A friend asked:
Why would anyone possibly want these? I don’t mean that to be rude at all, I am just curious if they are good for anything.

Jay Beacham A lady school teacher bought some for Christmas tree ornaments in Dec. and they are used for other crafts. They are a companion plant for tomatoes drawing bugs away from the tomato plants.

Harpagophytum, also called grapple plant, wood spider and most commonly devil’s claw, is a genus of plants in thesesame family, native to southern Africa. It owes to common name devil’s claw to the peculiar appearance of its hooked fruit. The plant’s large tuberous roots are used medicinally to reduce pain and fever, and to stimulate digestion. European colonists brought devil’s claw home where it was used to treat arthritis.
