On the 22nd of December 2009, the Master Singers Men’s Chorus of St.George, Utah performed at the St. George Tabernacle.
I was asked to sing a solo with Mrs. Dana Matthews on the piano.
It was “A Cradle in Bethlehem”. The microphone system was very good. When I finished, the announcer said something about my “very fine voice” and after wards, as I thanked folks for attending at one of the east doors, someone said I sounded better than Willie Nelson. Another soloist’s daughter said I “sounded like Willie Nelson only better.”
I told her it was the day and the song.
I believe that true because one night at a karaoke sing in a lady’s home I “sounded just like Neil Diamond”. Never have been able to do that since.
At times past Nat King Cole, Glen Yarborough, Pat Boone, and Bing Crosby and others have been who people thought I sounded like. (“I love Pat Boone but I like you better.)
When singing with Colleen Lloyd, one woman said we sounded like Jeanette McDonald and Nelson Eddie.
Must just be the day and the song.
